What is Islandreams Textiles?

ISLANDREAMS TEXTILES is a collection of designer coordinated fabrics, established in 1990.  Authentic Islandreams Textiles brand provides inspirational custom hand-printed fabrics that meet rigid contract industry standards.  Artfully coordinated design groupings and color patterns make it easy for customers and designers to visualize a new look.  Many of our custom fabrics are hand-printed using the antique process of woodblock printing and silk screening.

Islandreams Textiles continues to be one of the most unique fabric lines offered in Home Interiors today.

Fabrication

Special care is given to create unusual fabrics, using only natural fibers  such as linen, cotton and flax, and environmentally safe pigments and inks. The pigments are hand mixed following Marti Schmidt's own formulas and the fabrics are printed by hand. Batik and hand painting are other techniques used in the varied executions of the unique style.

The custom fabric line designs are hand printed using the antique process of woodblock printing and silk screening. Most of the images are organic which are layered to create multiple colors and shapes. Utilizing natural plant materials and hand carved wood cuts, silk screens are created for the hand printing of the fabric. Often these wood blocks are designed and carved by Marti herself or antique wood blocks from her personal collection (gathered from around the world) are used. Many of these rare blocks are more than 100 years old.

Our custom fabrics are manufactured and printed in the U.S.A.  We offer printing on Avora® FR Fabrics - a fire retardant material that meets industry standards and requires no additional treatment.

Hand-Printed Artwork

Since our custom designs begin with sketches and paintings, many of our customers have requested complimentary artwork.  Original artwork. Limited Edition Fine Art Reproduction prints and more available. Inquire for details or BROWSE THE SHOP.

Who Is Marti Schmidt?

Marti's art reflects the tropical ambiance of the pan-Caribbean, the exotic mysticism of the south Pacific, with the infusion of European flavor. There is often a hint of the intricate curves of New Orleans ironwork, Art Deco geometry, Byzantine Mosaics, Chinese watercolor brushwork and Japanese woodblocks.

Marti has over 30 years of experience in art, design, woodblock printing etching, silk-screen and various dye and resist techniques, including Batik. Batik is the process of layering molten wax, dyes and pigments to create imagery, color and design. Marti has perfected her signature style in this medium. Her original Batik paintings and canvases reflecting her faces and figurative works hang in some of the most prestigious homes, resorts, galleries and corporate offices throughout the world.
