FINDING TREASURES

During the creation of my newest body of work, “ MY BIRD TRIBE RETURNS “ I decided to reorganize my antique architectural cabinets where I keep most of my works on paper.

As I opened each drawer, the most rewarding element was finding artwork that had been hiding away deep in the layers. Each of these finds offering another option for reclaiming art from another era back into this newest exhibit.

Personal Archetypal images, hand-printed woodblocks on rice paper along with handmade papers from around the world surfaced, and what a treasure trove it was. Colors rich in pigments and patterns from France, Morroco, Bali, England, and Cuba. These are some of my personal favorite travel experiences and memories wrapped up in each paper.

Techniques and processes revealed that I had not done in years, adding new textures in the layers buried under newer more advanced contemporary ideas of translating my art language into a story.

This collection is complete now, ready to hang in my Gallery L’Artiste Marti Schmidt, located here at my home in Point Washington, Florida. Sign Up for the mailing list on my website for the announcement of the Open Studio and Gallery in October 2021.
